DEAR CULTURE GURU: If there’s a battle for talent, we’re losing it on all fronts. Our best people are leaving. Our ranks are filled with dead weight. Our new hires either need too much skills training or they start the job brimming with energy and ideas only to quickly lose steam and settle into mediocre performance. DEAR LOSING: Predictably perhaps, I’m going to suggest that hiring new talent may not be the solution here. Even you admit that it’s getting you nowhere fast. By looking outside your organization, you are externalizing a problem you may have inside your culture. Few people accept a job with plans to simply leave it later. People leave for two reasons: the leadership and the culture of the company.
